Stretcher bar molding is used by artists to stretch and mount their canvases. When unstretched, artwork can roll or sag when hung. Canvas stretcher bar moulding offers structure to your artwork with a strong, reliable backing.
It is also ideal for storage, as stretched and mounted artwork can be safely and easily archived.
Pine wood is most commonly used for canvas stretcher bar moulding. This solid, unyielding wood material is optimal s a canvas structure. It won’t bend or bow, even under the pressure of hanging from a wall.
First, lay your artwork across the stretcher bar moulding, with the blank side of your canvas against the wood. You should have extra canvas on each of the stretcher bar molding’s four sides. If you don’t, this means your stretcher bar moulding length’s too large.
Next, fold a single edge of your artwork down against the stretcher bart moulding. This should be done so that your folded canvas is hidden behind the frame. Secure this edge of canvas to the stretcher bar sticks using a staplegun.
Next, pull your canvas tight on the opposite side from the one you just folded. Take this opposite side’s edge and proceed to fold it behind your canvas stretcher bar sticks in the same manner. Secure with staples.
Lastly, repeat on your remaining two sides of canvas. When complete, your canvas should be tight against the frame of your stretcher bar molding and fastened to all four sides.
